CASE STUDY · ECOMMERCE / CUSTOMER JOURNEY

Magento Checkout & Post-Purchase Journey Customisation

A Magento store using manually processed payment methods needed a clearer customer journey after checkout. The project replaced a generic success experience with payment-aware instructions, realistic processing expectations and direct support paths.

Platform Magento
Project type Checkout UX
Payment model Manual processing
Focus Post-order clarity
6 manual payment options supported
24–48h processing expectation communicated
3–5 days delivery expectation communicated
4 customer contact routes surfaced
THE CHALLENGE

Completing the order was not the end of the payment journey.

The store accepted several payment methods that were processed manually after the Magento order was placed.

Customers therefore needed to understand what would happen next instead of landing on a generic success page with little context.

The required flow had to support Cash App, Venmo, Zelle, Wise, Western Union and cryptocurrency while keeping each payment method independent.

The support team also needed customers to have clear ways to make contact when they wanted to coordinate or expedite payment.

WHAT NEEDED TO CHANGE

The success page needed to answer the customer’s immediate questions.

PAYMENT CONTEXT

Make the selected payment path understandable

Customers needed a clear explanation that the order had been received and that the support team would follow up regarding the payment option selected at checkout.

EXPECTATIONS

Communicate processing and delivery windows

The post-order experience was designed around a stated 24–48 hour processing period and a 3–5 business-day delivery expectation.

SUPPORT

Surface direct customer contact routes

Email, Signal, Telegram and SMS were included as support routes so customers could contact the team after ordering when needed.

CRYPTO FLOW

Give cryptocurrency orders more useful instructions

Cryptocurrency orders required more detailed post-order information, including payment instructions, expiry handling and a path for customers who needed help obtaining Bitcoin.

MAGENTO UX

Reduce generic post-checkout clutter

The goal was a focused success experience rather than leaving unrelated default Magento checkout blocks to compete with the information customers needed immediately after placing an order.

THE IMPLEMENTATION

We designed the post-order experience around the actual operating process.

STEP 01

Map each payment method

Separate the available payment routes and define what customers need to know after order placement.

STEP 02

Replace generic messaging

Use post-order copy that reflects manual processing rather than implying that every payment is completed instantly.

STEP 03

Set operational expectations

Present processing and delivery windows where customers are most likely to look for them.

STEP 04

Add support escalation paths

Make the available contact channels visible so customers can reach the support team without searching through the website.

STEP 05

Extend the cryptocurrency flow

Support the additional instructions required for cryptocurrency payments while keeping the rest of the post-purchase experience focused.

THE OUTCOME

A post-purchase experience aligned with how the business actually processes orders.

The customised flow gave customers clearer next steps after placing an order.

Payment guidance, support routes, processing expectations and delivery expectations were brought together within the post-checkout journey instead of being scattered across different parts of the website.

This made the success page part of the operational payment workflow, rather than treating it as a generic confirmation screen.

No conversion-rate or revenue increase is claimed because verified analytics for those outcomes were not part of the available project evidence.

PROJECT TAKEAWAY

Checkout UX should match the business process after the order is placed.

When payment requires human follow-up, the success page becomes part of the payment workflow. Clear next steps reduce ambiguity without pretending that a manually processed transaction is already complete.
